The man said that the Kingdom of God was within and that after he went he'd leave the Holy Spirit to guide his disciples (in John's Gospel). For me this means he meant that spirituality does not rely on outward institutions but on one's "inner realm".

The idea of the holy Spirit is totally awesome. Also the story is pretty sometimes and his death makes me cry.

Jesus said, that which you have will save you, if you bring it forth from yourselves. That which you do not have within you will kill you, if you do not have it within you (Thomas 70)

I've seen a different version; Jesus said "If you bring foerth what is within you, what you bring forth will save you. If you do not bring forth what is within you, what you do not bring forth will destroy you."
Put that another way, when you can express your true nature in a healthy way, your nature becomes beneficial and creative. When you repress what is with you, what you repress becomes inverted in nature and you become self-destructive. It's quite a psychological principal.
